In My Mailbox -10-

BOUGHT

Nearmyth by Karen Francisco

I really would like to read this. Naermyth is a dystopian book by a Filipino author. If I'm not wrong, it would be the first dystopian published in the Philippines. You know, I really like dystopia.

It is about the future, where all the myth creatures became alive and engage a war with the human race. There will be also a love story between the heroine and a guy who is a born killer but their only hope to survive.

Book Blogger Hop

Wow, my question was chosen for this week's hop!

Book Blogger Hop

What book influenced or changed your life?
How did it influence/change you?

I'm 16 and I'm not old. Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, somehow influence my daily life and sight for the future. In the book, main character: Bod, lives with his ghosts guardians. He can do what ever he wants in the graveyard. He has a lot of adventures. Until one day, the time to leave his ghost parents and guardians, had arrived. From the moment I finished reading the book, I made my everyday life a little bit more challenging and cherishing every moment. Because one day, when I get older, I will need to live on my own with my new family.

So these days, I want to treasure every moment I have with the parents, sibling, and friends. I want to enjoy the remaining time where we are together EVERYDAY. Because even we can still see each other in the future, it's not already everyday. We need to make a living so we will be very busy.

These moments will be in my heart forever.

What book have you discovered lately from someone's book blog?

These two books are my recently discovered books. I think that they have good stories, so I pick them. I already done reading and reviewing Awaken, it's amazing!

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky

Publication Date: May 23, 2011
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Pages: 352
Genre: Dystopia, Romance
Source: Netgalley

Maddie lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether it’s to go to school or on a date, people don’t venture out of their home. There’s really no need. For the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life—until she meets Justin. Justin likes being with people. He enjoys the physical closeness of face-to-face interactions. People aren’t meant to be alone, he tells her.
Suddenly, Maddie feels something awakening inside her—a feeling that maybe there is a different, better way to live. But with society and her parents telling her otherwise, Maddie is going to have to learn to stand up for herself if she wants to change the path her life is taking.
In this not-so-brave new world, two young people struggle to carve out their own space.

I really enjoyed reading this one! You may know that I really like stories set in the future, like this a dystopia.

I really like the cover of this book. Look at it, why do you think the flowers are inside a closed glass jar? Until  now I'm still thinking of what the cover's message. I know there is and it is really hard to explain.

I was immediately hooked in the book at the very first start. In the year 2060, life is totally different from what we experience now. Students enter schools by their home computers. It limited the face to face interaction with people making them addicted to the technology.

At first I thought that the story will focuses to brought down Digital School, but I was wrong. It focuses on the love attraction between Maddie and Justin, making the topic about the DS a sub-story line. Also, at the very first few chapters, there's thrill! You can feel the emotions having between the two characters. You can feel love. This is because of Kacvinsky wisely choosing her words to explain the scenario. It added to the ingredients for the emotion to be felt by readers.

You can really saw the development of the characters, not just Maddie but also Justin. You will be able to see how they transitioned into one person to another, which is better. And that is what we look to a characters. Their development.

I was not that satisfied with the ending. I think Kacvinsky can write another thrilling ending better than in the book. She had done it, she can do it again. Well, also the ending is a cliff hanger. You will be questioned about what will happen to Maddie and Justin love? You will be left thinking.

I would like also to praise the wordings of the author. I really like the way she writes and the way she added humor to make the story lively, because the book is mainly about sorrow.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harcourt!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB ofShould Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!\

"Justin, this poor girl's exhausted. What have you done to her?" I tried not to blush again and Justin look indifferent as he rummaged through the pantry shelves.

In My Mailbox -9-

So it's the first Sunday of the year, and what we usually do at Sundays? We post In My Mailbox! Well, I don't have a huge haul to start the year but I'm glad that some authors provided me free copies of their works for review. So Let's get started!

BOUGHT

The Nature of Monster by Clare Clark
The Wind Singer by William Nicholson

I bought them during my vacation last month in our province. I found them at Booksale at a very low price, so I decided to try them out. You know that I like adventure and science a lot!

FOR REVIEW

Pandora's Succession

I received an e-mail from author, Russel Brooks, asking if I want to review his work. Since that I like the short description of the story I accepted the copy. Thanks Mr. Brooks!

I also received an e-mail from Obsidian Mountain Publishing asking me if I want to review Phantom Universe by Laura Kreitzer. I also like phantoms/ghost and I would like to read many books this year so I gracefully accepted the offer. Thank you!

So, what is in your mailbox this new year?
